Greater Portland Family Promise

Did you know that one out of every five people who experience homelessness is a child? Or that families with children make up nearly 35% of the people in this country who are experiencing homelessness?

Greater Portland Family Promise is one of 200+ programs across the country uniting the faith community to help children and their families who are homeless.

Family Promise aims to change the future of 1 million children by the year 2030, and Greater Portland Family Promise is a part of this national movement.

What is GPFP?

Greater Portland Family Promise [GPFP] is a national organization serving homeless families through the faith community.  GPFP will house up to 4 families (14 individuals maximum) at a time at local host churches. Churches will host for a week at a time on a rotating basis.  Families will have dinner, sleep, and eat breakfast at the church.  Days will be spent at a day center, located at the Portland YMCA.

How Can YOU Help?

Are you looking for an outreach opportunity… a way to make a difference? Greater Portland Family Promise (GPFP) might be just right for you. GPFP aims to provide homeless families in the Portland area with basic human needs: shelter, safety and sustenance with the spirit of warmth and hospitality.

In 2018, 12 families now have sustainable housing thanks in part to GPFP, the staff and more than 600 volunteers.

Once Settled

When Greater Portland Family Promise families move into permanent housing, GPFP helps to furnish their apartments.  Currently, they are in need of twin mattresses and kitchen chairs. If you have these items and are willing to donate them, please contact Wendy Barmore. A volunteer will pick up the items at your house.  Thank you.
